On June 19, 2013, the Sunshine State News reported that the University of Florida will offer a Masters Degree in social media under their School of Journalism and Communications. This will be the first degree of this kind offered in the United States, but it goes without saying, other schools and universities will follow suit. This media is redefining the way we communicate and do business worldwide.
Just a few short years ago, using social media at work would have been grounds for dismissal, and now it is part of doing business. Most people go online or consult a peer before making a purchase, and this media has become a way of life, and how we communicate. This has not gone unnoticed by millions of businesses. Another added benefit of this media is the cost effectiveness compared to other paid advertising, and many believe it is better targeted.
